Product Specifications

What is a LED downlight housing kit?

A LED downlight housing kit is a set of passive mechanical components that hold a COB LED module and driver in a ceiling recess. It typically includes the heat sink (radiator), optical lens or reflector, trim ring, and mounting hardware (spring clips or screws). It does NOT contain the LED light source, driver, or any electrical circuit. ECOLEDKIT’s housing range covers cutout sizes from 55mm to 200mm and power ranges from 5W to 65W, with 100+ variants.

What materials are ECOLEDKIT downlight housings made from?

All ECOLEDKIT heat sinks use aluminum alloys. Four types are used across the product line: Die-cast aluminum (ADC12, ~96 W/m·K thermal conductivity) for models 6101–6105, 6205–6206A, 6213A; Extruded aluminum (6063, ~200 W/m·K) for models 6208–6210; Cold-forged aluminum (~200–230 W/m·K) for models 6201, 6203, 6216; and Aluminum profile (~160–200 W/m·K) for models 6211–6215. No steel or plastic is used in any heat sink.

What IP rating do ECOLEDKIT downlight housings have?

All models in the current range are rated IP20, meaning they are designed for indoor dry locations only. IP20 provides protection against solid objects larger than 12.5mm but no protection against water. If your project requires IP44 or IP65 wet-location ratings, you will need to add gaskets and seals during final luminaire assembly — the housing itself does not provide waterproofing.

What cutout sizes do ECOLEDKIT downlight housings cover?

ECOLEDKIT housings cover ceiling cutout diameters from 55mm to 200mm. The most common sizes are: 55mm (3-inch), 75mm (4-inch), 95mm (5-inch), 105mm (6-inch), 125mm (7-inch), 130mm (8-inch), and 200mm (large format). Each model specifies an exact cutout range — for example, model 6208 covers 55mm–125mm across its 9 variants. Always check the specific model datasheet for exact cutout tolerances.

What beam angles are available with ECOLEDKIT housing kits?

ECOLEDKIT lens options cover beam angles from 8° to 60° depending on the model. Standard lens angles are 15°, 24°, 36°, and 55°. Deep anti-glare models (6201, 6203, 6208) offer the widest range from 10° to 60°. Model 6213A offers three optical systems: standard lens, reflector, and adjustable focus (8°–45°). The lens is included in the kit; you select the beam angle when ordering.

What is the difference between COB and SMD LED downlight housings?

COB (Chip-on-Board) housings have a single large LED chip mount and use a lens for beam control. SMD (Surface-Mount Device) housings have multiple small LED chips on a board and typically use a diffuser panel. ECOLEDKIT manufactures COB-only housings — all models in the current range are designed for single-COB modules with interchangeable lenses. COB housings offer better beam control (narrow spot to wide flood via lens swap) and simpler thermal management.

What is the thermal performance of ECOLEDKIT die-cast aluminum housings?

ECOLEDKIT die-cast aluminum housings use ADC12 alloy with approximately 96 W/m·K thermal conductivity. For the 6101/6102 models at 25W, the heat sink maintains the COB junction temperature well below the typical 85°C maximum. Models using extruded aluminum (6063, ~200 W/m·K) and cold-forged aluminum (~200–230 W/m·K) offer even better thermal performance for higher-power applications up to 65W.

What is the difference between deep anti-glare and shallow anti-glare housings?

Deep anti-glare (UGR<19) housings have a recessed COB position deep inside the reflector cup, which shields the light source from direct view. ECOLEDKIT deep anti-glare models include 6201, 6203, 6206A, 6208, 6209, 6210, and 6216 — these are used in museums, galleries, hotels, and high-end retail. Shallow anti-glare models (6205, 6206, 6212) have a shallower cup depth, suitable for ceilings with limited cavity space where some glare tolerance is acceptable.

Ordering & Shipping

What is the minimum order quantity (MOQ) for ECOLEDKIT downlight housing kits?

The standard MOQ is 100 sets per model variant. For initial sample orders, we accept 50 sets with a sample surcharge. Customised OEM/ODM orders typically require a minimum of 1,000 pieces.

What is the lead time for LED downlight housing kits?

For in-stock standard models, lead time is 3 working days. For production orders of standard configurations, lead time is 15–25 working days depending on quantity and surface finish. Custom color orders (beyond standard white/black) add 5–7 days. ECOLEDKIT manufactures in Zhongshan, China, with convenient consolidation from Guzhen, Henglan, and Xiaolan logistics hubs. Sample orders are dispatched within 10 days; standard mass production lead time is around 4 weeks, depending on order volume.

Do you provide samples before a bulk order?

Yes. ECOLEDKIT accepts sample orders starting from 50 sets per model. Sample orders include a surcharge but allow you to verify dimensions, finish quality, and component compatibility before committing to production quantities. Samples are typically shipped within 3–7 working days via DHL, FedEx, or your preferred courier.

What shipping options are available from your Zhongshan factory?

ECOLEDKIT ships from Henglan Town, Zhongshan — in the heart of China’s LED manufacturing cluster. The Guzhen, Henglan, and Xiaolan logistics hubs allow convenient consolidation with other lighting products. We ship globally through reliable freight partners to suit your procurement needs.

Material & Compliance

Do ECOLEDKIT downlight housing kits require CE, UL, or SAA certification?

No. LED downlight housing kits are passive mechanical components with no electrical circuit, no LED source, and no driver. Certifications such as CE, UL, ETL, SAA, and RoHS apply to finished luminaires (complete lights), not to individual housing components. The buyer is responsible for finished-product certification in their target market. ECOLEDKIT provides housing specifications and dimensional data to support your certification application.

Are ECOLEDKIT downlight housings recyclable?

Yes. All ECOLEDKIT housings are made from aluminum alloys, which are among the most recycled materials globally. Aluminum recycling rate exceeds 95% in the construction industry. Recycled aluminum requires only about 5% of the energy needed to produce primary aluminum from bauxite ore. At end-of-life, the aluminum heat sink, trim ring, and mounting hardware can all be separated and recycled.

Installation & Compatibility

Can I use my own LED driver with ECOLEDKIT housings?

Yes. ECOLEDKIT housings are designed as component kits — you choose and install your own COB LED module and constant-current driver. Each model specifies a recommended power range (e.g. 7–60W for model 6208). As long as your COB module and driver fit within the housing’s thermal and dimensional limits, they are compatible. This gives you control over component quality, cost, and certification.

How are ECOLEDKIT downlight housings installed?

Two mounting methods are used across the product line: (1) Spring clip mounting — the most common method, used on recessed models. Spring clips are pre-attached; you simply push the housing into the ceiling cutout. No tools required, installation takes under 3 minutes per unit. (2) Screw mounting — used for surface-mounted model 6105 and some deep anti-glare models. Requires a screwdriver. All mounting hardware (spring clips, screws, fixing clips) is included in each kit.

Do you offer surface-mounted (non-recessed) downlight housings?

Yes. Model 6105 is a surface-mounted round downlight housing that requires no ceiling cutout. It mounts directly to the ceiling surface and is available in 6 variants covering 45–95mm face diameter, 5–15W power range, and 52–87mm height. This is ideal for concrete ceilings or installations where cutting is not possible.

Can ECOLEDKIT housings be used for dimmable LED systems?

Yes. Since ECOLEDKIT housings contain no electrical components, they are fully compatible with any dimmable COB LED module and dimmable driver combination. Dimming compatibility depends entirely on your chosen driver (TRIAC, 0-10V, DALI, or PWM) and LED module — not on the housing. The housing’s thermal capacity must still match your LED’s power dissipation at full brightness.

How do I choose the right ECOLEDKIT model for my project?

Three key parameters determine the right model: (1) Ceiling cutout diameter — measure your existing or planned cutout, then match to the model’s cutout range. (2) Power requirement — check your COB LED wattage against the model’s recommended power range. (3) Application type — standard recessed (6100 series), deep anti-glare (6200 series), surface-mounted (6105), or multi-optic (6213A). For projects with multiple requirements, contact sales@ecoledkit.com with your specifications for a tailored recommendation across our housing range and 100+ variants.

Thermal Performance & Materials

What is the thermal conductivity of ADC12 die-cast aluminum used in ECOLEDKIT housings?

ADC12 die-cast aluminum has a thermal conductivity of approximately 96 W/m·K. This is adequate for LED power ranges of 5-40W in ECOLEDKIT’s die-cast models (6101, 6102, 6103, 6103A, 6105, 6205, 6206, 6206A, 6213A). For higher power applications (50-65W), ECOLEDKIT uses extruded aluminum (~200 W/m·K) or cold-forged aluminum (~200-230 W/m·K) models instead.

How does powder coating affect the thermal performance of an aluminum heat sink?

Negligibly. Powder coating film thickness is 60-120 μm with thermal conductivity of ~0.1-0.2 W/m·K. On a typical 3mm ADC12 housing wall, the coating adds approximately 2% to total thermal resistance — too thin to function as meaningful insulation. Both powder coating and wet paint have minimal thermal impact on LED downlight housings.

What is the difference between cold-forged and die-cast aluminum heat sinks?

Cold-forged aluminum has higher density and thermal conductivity (~200-230 W/m·K) compared to die-cast ADC12 (~96 W/m·K). Cold forging compresses the aluminum under high pressure, eliminating porosity and creating a denser microstructure. ECOLEDKIT uses cold-forged aluminum for deep anti-glare models 6201, 6203, and 6216 (10-35W). Die-cast aluminum offers more design flexibility for complex 3D fin geometries at lower cost.

Can ECOLEDKIT housings be used with COB LED modules above their rated power range?

No. Each ECOLEDKIT model specifies a power range (e.g., 6101: 9-25W, 6208: 7-60W). Exceeding this range risks overheating the COB junction, reducing LED lifespan, and potentially causing premature failure. Always select a housing whose power range exceeds your COB module’s actual power consumption.

What surface finish options are available for ECOLEDKIT housings?

Standard finishes are white (RAL 9016) and black (RAL 9005) powder coating with semi-matte gloss. Custom colors (sand white, sand black, gunmetal grey, or RAL/Pantone matching) are available at a minimum of 500 sets per color. All ECOLEDKIT housings use powder coating as the standard surface treatment for superior durability and zero VOC emissions.

Large Projects & Compliance

What safety margin should I add when ordering housings for large projects?

We recommend adding 5-10% above the exact project quantity: 3-5% for installation damage, 2-3% for post-handover replacement stock, and 1-2% for production variation. For a 3,000-unit project, order 3,150-3,300 units. Complex anti-glare installations in premium spaces may warrant the higher end of this range.

Can ECOLEDKIT deliver housings in phases for multi-stage construction projects?

Yes. ECOLEDKIT can pre-produce the full project quantity in a single production batch (ensuring color and finish consistency) and store finished units at the factory warehouse for phased shipment per your installation schedule. Standard production lead time is 15-25 working days; in-stock models ship in 3 working days.

What documentation does ECOLEDKIT provide with orders for certification purposes?

Every first order includes a standard documentation package: Material Test Report (MTR) with chemical composition, Dimensional Inspection Report, Surface Treatment Specification, and RoHS Declaration. For orders of 1,000+ units, REACH SVHC declarations, thermal simulation data, and salt spray test reports are available on request.

Do ECOLEDKIT housings comply with REACH and RoHS regulations?

ECOLEDKIT provides a RoHS compliance declaration confirming the housing and powder coating do not contain restricted substances above RoHS limits. REACH SVHC declarations are available on request. Note: the housing is a passive component not subject to RoHS/REACH certification itself, but this documentation supports the finished luminaire assembler’s compliance package.

How do I ensure batch consistency when ordering housings across multiple deliveries?

Request single-batch production: ECOLEDKIT produces the full project quantity in one die-casting lot and one surface treatment batch, then ships in phases. This ensures uniform color and finish across all units, even if deliveries span several months. Specify batch consistency requirements in your purchase order.

What is the difference between ECOLEDKIT’s recessed and surface-mounted housings?

Recessed housings (6101, 6102, 6103, 6103A, and all 6200/6210-series models) install into a ceiling cutout. Surface-mounted model 6105 mounts directly to the ceiling surface without cutting a hole — ideal for concrete ceilings or installations where cutting is impractical. The 6105 covers 45-95mm face diameter and 5-15W power range.

Can I use ECOLEDKIT housings with dimmable LED drivers?

Yes. ECOLEDKIT housings are passive mechanical components and are compatible with all dimming protocols (Triac, 0-10V, DALI, PWM). The housing doesn’t affect dimming performance. However, for best results: (1) select housing thermal capacity for full-power operation, not dimmed conditions; (2) ensure the driver fits the available ceiling cavity space; (3) verify driver + COB compatibility from the COB manufacturer’s list.

What custom colors are available beyond standard white and black?

Beyond standard white (RAL 9016) and black (RAL 9005), ECOLEDKIT offers sand white, sand black, gunmetal grey, and custom RAL or Pantone color matching. Custom color MOQ is 500 sets per color. Custom colors add 10-15% per unit surcharge. Contact sales@ecoledkit.com with your RAL code for a sample.

What is ADC12 aluminum and why is it used for LED downlight housings?

ADC12 is a JIS-standard aluminum-silicon-copper die-casting alloy (equivalent to ASTM A383, EN AC-46100, GB YL113). It’s the most widely used die-casting alloy in the LED industry because: (1) high silicon content (10.5-12%) provides excellent fluidity for casting thin-wall complex shapes; (2) lower melting point (570-590°C vs 660°C for pure aluminum) saves energy; (3) good mechanical strength (310 MPa tensile) and adequate thermal conductivity (~96 W/m·K) for low-to-medium power LED applications.

How do I calculate the total landed cost for a large housing order?

Total Landed Cost = (Unit Price × Quantity) + Shipping + Duties + Clearance + Storage. As a rough estimate, multiply FOB price by 1.15-1.25 to get CIF + duties for most Asian-to-global routes. Housing kits typically attract lower import duties than complete luminaires (3-10% vs 15-25% in many markets). Sea freight adds 8-15% of FOB value. Contact sales@ecoledkit.com for project-specific landed cost estimates.

Can ECOLEDKIT provide material test reports for aluminum alloy verification?

Yes. ECOLEDKIT provides Material Test Reports (MTR) with chemical composition analysis for each ADC12 batch, verified by spectrometer. This confirms the alloy meets JIS ADC12 / ASTM A383 specifications. MTRs are included as standard with every first order. For projects requiring third-party verification, independent lab testing can be arranged at additional cost.

What should I do if I need replacement housings for a project completed years ago?

Include 2-3% spare units in your original order as maintenance stock — this costs far less than ordering a small batch later, when the specific model may have been discontinued or the die modified. If you need replacements after the project, contact sales@ecoledkit.com with the original model number and order date. ECOLEDKIT maintains long-term model availability but cannot guarantee identical die-cast tooling beyond 5 years.

Are ECOLEDKIT housings recyclable at end of life?

Yes. Aluminum is 100% recyclable without degradation of properties. Recycling aluminum requires only 5% of the energy needed for primary aluminum production. ECOLEDKIT housings have an effective indoor service life of 15-25 years (the aluminum doesn’t degrade; powder coating may yellow or chip after 10-15 years). At end of life, the housing is fully recyclable as scrap aluminum.

What is the difference between shallow anti-glare and deep anti-glare housings?

Deep anti-glare housings (6201, 6203, 6208, 6209, 6210, 6216) have a taller cup that positions the COB LED deeper below the trim plane, hiding the light source from direct view at wider angles — UGR <19 typically. Shallow anti-glare (6205, 6206) and flush-mount (6213) models have shorter profiles for ceiling depth constraints, with moderate anti-glare performance. Choose deep anti-glare for museums, galleries, and luxury retail; shallow/flush for space-constrained installations.

How do I match a dimmable driver with ECOLEDKIT housing and COB LED module?

Follow this sequence: (1) Select the ECOLEDKIT housing model based on cutout size, power range, and anti-glare requirement; (2) Choose a COB LED module within the housing’s power range; (3) From the COB manufacturer’s datasheet, find the recommended driver list for that COB; (4) Select a dimmable driver from that list matching your dimming protocol (Triac/0-10V/DALI). The housing is compatible with all driver types — the constraint is always driver + COB compatibility, not the housing.

SKD Kits, Assembly & Customs

What is an SKD lighting kit — and what is inside yours?

An SKD (semi-knocked-down) kit ships a fixture as separate parts. Our commercial lighting SKD kit contains the die-cast aluminium housing shell, the optical parts (lens or reflector) and the spring clips. It does not include a COB light source or a driver — you fit your own brands.

Can we assemble your kits at our own factory?

Yes — that is what the kits are designed for. They are built around standard COB mounting footprints and tool-free spring clips, so your line can fit any mainstream COB and driver brand. The housing stays the same across markets: change the driver, not the shell.

Do you have an overseas factory?

No. ECOLEDKIT manufactures in Zhongshan, Guangdong, China, and supplies SKD housing kits to assembly plants, lighting brands and importers. Final assembly, branding and market certification happen at the buyer's facility. ECOLEDKIT does not claim local manufacturing or local origin in the destination market.

How are SKD housing kits classified for customs?

Our kits ship as housing components with no light source and no driver, so they are declared as the component they are — not as a finished luminaire. The applicable classification and duty depend on the destination market's tariff schedule, and your customs broker makes the final determination. Because tariff headings differ from country to country, we confirm the details with you for your specific market before shipping.
